About the Organiser

The Zen Rooms

The Zen Rooms

I’m Neil Perry-Timson, a Reiki teacher, yoga instructor and holistic wellbeing practitioner, as well as the founder of The Zen Rooms and Zen Community Hub.

I created The Zen Rooms to provide a welcoming place where people can discover trusted practitioners, services, events and supportive resources to help them explore holistic wellbeing and personal development. I later founded Zen Community Hub to make wellbeing activities more accessible within local communities, particularly for people who may feel isolated, overwhelmed or unable to access traditional support.

Through my own work, I offer Reiki, yoga, meditation, sound healing, spiritual development and a range of relaxing wellbeing experiences. My approach is warm, inclusive and down-to-earth. I aim to create calm, supportive spaces where people can feel comfortable, connect with others, build confidence and explore practices that support their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing at a pace that feels right for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring?

I have 12 comfortable yoga mattresses available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please bring a blanket, cushion and anything else that helps you feel warm and comfortable. You are welcome to bring your own mat or additional supports.

What happens during a Sound Bath?

Most people choose to lie down, although you are equally welcome to sit in a comfortable position. Once settled, you can close your eyes and simply listen. I use a range of sounds and periods of quiet to create space for deep rest. There is nothing you need to achieve and no particular way you are expected to feel.

How can a Sound Bath help me relax and reduce stress or anxiety?

As you settle and focus on the sounds, your body and mind can begin to slow down. The gentle rhythms, tones and vibrations can help shift your attention away from everyday thoughts and encourage a calmer, more restful state.

Some research into singing bowls has found changes in brainwave activity alongside reduced feelings of stress and anxiety, although everyone experiences a Sound Bath differently. You might feel deeply relaxed, notice your breathing slow, drift in and out of awareness, or simply enjoy having some quiet time to switch off.

Why is each month different?

The first Wednesday Sound Baths form a year-round wellbeing journey. Each month explores a different theme through a very short practical introduction followed by a Sound Bath. The aim is to give you a simple focus for reflection that you can relate to everyday life, while keeping the session relaxed and accessible.

Can a Sound Bath help with self-healing?

Sound Baths can create time and space for rest, reflection and reconnection with yourself. Research into singing bowls suggests possible benefits for stress, anxiety, sleep and wellbeing, although the evidence is still developing. I use the term self-healing in the holistic sense of supporting your own wellbeing, self-awareness and restorative practices, not as a replacement for medical or psychological treatment.

Is a Sound Bath suitable for everyone?

Sound Baths are generally gentle, but please contact me before booking if you have epilepsy or seizures that can be triggered by sound, significant sound sensitivity or tinnitus, a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, are pregnant, have recently had surgery, or are experiencing a severe or unstable mental-health crisis. If you are unsure whether a Sound Bath is suitable for you, please check with the relevant healthcare professional first.

Sound-triggered seizures are uncommon, but they can occur in some forms of reflex epilepsy.

What should I do after the Sound Bath?

Give yourself a few minutes to return fully to normal awareness. Sit up slowly, have some water and take your time before leaving. Please make sure you feel fully alert, steady and grounded before driving home. If you still feel drowsy, light-headed or disorientated, stay seated and give yourself more time before driving.
