About the Organiser

The Zen Rooms

The Zen Rooms

I’m Neil Perry-Timson, a Reiki teacher, yoga instructor and holistic wellbeing practitioner, as well as the founder of The Zen Rooms and Zen Community Hub.

I created The Zen Rooms to provide a welcoming place where people can discover trusted practitioners, services, events and supportive resources to help them explore holistic wellbeing and personal development. I later founded Zen Community Hub to make wellbeing activities more accessible within local communities, particularly for people who may feel isolated, overwhelmed or unable to access traditional support.

Through my own work, I offer Reiki, yoga, meditation, sound healing, spiritual development and a range of relaxing wellbeing experiences. My approach is warm, inclusive and down-to-earth. I aim to create calm, supportive spaces where people can feel comfortable, connect with others, build confidence and explore practices that support their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing at a pace that feels right for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never done yoga before. Can I still come?

Absolutely. The class is designed to be welcoming to beginners as well as people who already have some yoga experience. You do not need to be particularly flexible or fit. I will offer options throughout the class so you can work comfortably at your own level.

What happens during a Zen Yoga class?

We begin with breathing techniques to help quieten the mind and prepare for the session. We then move into a gentle Zen Yoga practice combining movement, stretching, awareness and breath. Every class finishes with guided meditation and relaxation.

Why are the classes similar each week?

This is deliberate. I want you to have time to become familiar with the breathing techniques and movements rather than having to learn a completely new routine every week. Repetition helps you build confidence, notice your progress and learn a simple practice that you can also use at home.

What should I bring?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. Yoga mats and equipment are available, although you are very welcome to bring your own mat if you prefer. You may also want to bring a bottle of water and an extra layer for the meditation at the end.

What do I need to do before my first class?

If this is your first session, please arrive early. The hall opens around 30 minutes before class and I like to have time to welcome new students, explain the breathing techniques and answer any questions before we begin.

I will also ask you to complete a short new-starter form. You can complete it when you arrive or save time by completing it online beforehand: https://forms.gle/nwMCcM1wUH3hPh417

What if I have an injury, health condition or limited mobility?

Please let me know before the class if there is anything that may affect your practice, particularly if you are recovering from an injury or operation, are pregnant, or have a health condition that affects movement, balance or breathing. I can usually suggest gentler options, but there may be occasions where I recommend checking with an appropriate healthcare professional first.

Do I have to be able to sit on the floor or do every movement?

No. You are encouraged to work with your own body and never force a movement. You can rest whenever you need to, miss out anything that does not feel right and use alternatives or supports where appropriate. Yoga should adapt to you, rather than you having to adapt yourself to yoga.
